Work progressing on all-affordable site in Wellesbourne utilising modular homes

Work is progressing on Orbit’s all-affordable, new homes development in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire, which is utilising modern methods of construction, with the first show homes expected to open in March 2021.

A total of 35 two and three-bedroom homes consisting of 16 shared ownership and 19 social rented homes are being built at Willett Gardens, including 25 modular homes which boast energy-efficient and environmentally friendly credentials.

Produced by ilke Homes, the houses were manufactured in Yorkshire and then erected on-site in Wellesbourne. They look exactly the same as a finished brick-built house but are more environmentally friendly, so are ideal for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint with their next house purchase.

Andrew McDermott, Managing Director for Orbit Homes in the Midlands, said: “Creating and building multi-tenure developments with homes that are good quality, affordable and safe is at the heart of what we do at Orbit and we look forward to Willett Gardens becoming a thriving community within Wellesbourne.

“We are keen to reduce our carbon footprint through the use of modern methods of construction; we see modular housing as an important part of the future of housing in the UK and we are excited to work with ilke Homes as our partner on this. Being sustainable on all levels is important to us and that is why we reinvest all our profits back into the business, to support our communities and to create more affordable homes.”

Modular housing significantly reduces the impact on the environment through off-site, energy-efficient construction, minimised material procurement and wastage and reduced transportation required to and from site. The homes are also more energy-efficient resulting in reduced heating costs.

As well modular homes, Willett Gardens offers ten properties which are built with timber frames and fully insulated, closed wall panels to provide greater air tightness to provide reduced heating bills.

Willett Gardens has benefitted from Homes England funding of £1.6m, which has enabled Orbit to build the modular homes and has supported the installation of electric car charging points for customers.

Groundworks on the site began in August with delivery of the modular homes in November and the first show home is expected to open in March 2021. Anyone wishing to express an interest in purchasing a home at Willett Gardens can do so by visiting www.orbithomes.org.uk or calling 07831 806975.
