Bexleyheath and Crayford MP, Sir David Evennett, celebrated national Employability Day at a jobs fair in Slade Green organised by housing group Orbit.

Orbit’s in-house specialist Employment and Skills team held a series of jobs fairs helping local people into work.

A number of local employers, training providers and volunteer agencies joined Orbit at its Bexley event held at Slade Green Library and Community Centre in Erith. Jobseekers were able to access support and advice and apply for live vacancies with many of the companies on the day.

Sir David Evennett MP said: “I was delighted to be able to support National Employability Day 2018, as well as the fantastic event organised by the Orbit employment team. This was a great chance for individuals to learn about the wide range of support available to help people into jobs, and to learn about the many employment, training and volunteering opportunities there are in Bexley.”

The event was well attended with three people booking interviews for the following week with Tesco.com.

Nicola Kantas, Employment Skills and Enterprise Programme Manager (MIEP) at Orbit said: “Celebrating Employability Day in this way is a great opportunity for our customers to meet face-to-face with local employers, training providers and volunteer agencies in their local community. As well as inviting our customers to attend these employability events we are also offering them the opportunity to fill in the gaps in their CV, try new things and build their confidence and self-esteem by involving them in volunteering on the day as well.”
