Exterior works have been completed at one of Norwich’s most historic homes, Grade II* listed building Howard House following two and a half years of rigorous restoration work.

Contractors, R&J Hogg who are renovating the house on behalf of Orbit, developers of the neighbouring £85m St Anne’s Quarter, have carefully repaired the roof, structure and external facades of the building rendering it safe to remove the hoarding surrounding the property.

Several internal works including joinery repairs to the panels; repairing doors and windows; renovating ceilings with egg and dart covings and lime plastering have also been carried out.

Commenting on the restoration, Ian Fieldhouse, Regional Director – East at Orbit said: “We are really pleased with the progress that has been made at Howard House. Works have been more extensive than we anticipated and today we mark a significant milestone in our project.

“We are also happy to share that Howard House is due to be removed from Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register.”

Recent works also include carefully installing heating, plumbing, electricity into the building, working hand in hand with the conservation architect, Hogg‘s historic buildings specialist builders and the conservation team at Norfolk County Council.

Renovation of Howard House is due to be completed early next year and forms part of Orbit’s plans to transform the neighbouring St Anne’s Quarter into a high-quality residential-led development of more than 400 new homes.
