Food offers are on the menu to support Orbit customers during coronavirus

Orbit customers across Bexley can now get discounted meals and fresh food boxes via The Exchange in Erith.

Fresh food boxes available to Orbit's customers in Bexley

Orbit has arranged for home-cooked ready meals and fresh fruit / vegetable boxes to be made available immediately to its customers, at a discounted rate.

These offers have been arranged, organised and set up in a matter of days through Orbit’s Community Investment funding to urgently help its customers during the coronavirus outbreak.

The Bookstore Café, which is based at The Exchange, had to close its doors along with other restaurants due to coronavirus enforcements on 21 March. But instead of shutting up shop completely, it is offering a home-cooked meal delivery service in and around Bexley.

The fresh food boxes normally cost £20 and are discounted to £10 for Orbit customers. Collection is between 10am and 3pm at The Exchange and due to guidelines on social distancing, priority deliveries will be made to Orbit’s sheltered schemes.

Paul Richards, Group Customer Services Director, at Orbit said: “We know that the current coronavirus situation has had an adverse effect on a lot of our customers. Our Community Investment team has done a fantastic job at directing funds in a short space of time to where we can best serve our customers with practical solutions. The Bookstore Café’s delivery service is a great idea and this, along with the fresh food boxes, will go a long way to help our customers who are struggling to get visit the supermarket.”

The Bookstore Café is delivering a range of nutritiously balanced, home dishes for £5 (£18 for a family of four sized portion), but Orbit customers can access the meals for £2.50.

The oven ready meals, which include favourites such as cottage pie, fish pie, chicken Kiev and spaghetti Bolognese, all have a three-day shelf-life, can be frozen and vegetarian and vegan options are available.

Anyone wishing to place a ready meal order can contact The Bookstore Café on 01322 341144 or via www.theexchangeerith.com. Orbit residents wishing to order just need to show proof of tenancy upon delivery, except those living in Sherwood House, Marler House, Lambert Court, Buckles Court, Hayley House, Flaxman Court and Bushey Court, who automatically qualify.
