Orbit is celebrating after winning a record number of Britain in Bloom awards at its Independent Living schemes this year, with 14 in total.
Orbit is celebrating after winning a record number of Britain in Bloom awards at its Independent Living schemes this year, with 14 in total.
Three of those were presented with Level 5 ’outstanding’ awards by the Royal Horticultural Society in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ category, with Malt Mill Lane in Alcester receiving an overall gardening excellence award.
Dan Bird, Head of Estate Services at Orbit, said: “These awards are particularly exciting for us because they demonstrate that the work we have done, to improve the quality of the grounds maintenance across our estates and in our communities over the last year, has paid off and has been formally recognised.”
Orbit is focused on improving and expanding its own in-house teams to manage the grounds maintenance across its portfolio, including its Independent Living schemes. These teams have worked with gardening groups and volunteers from the schemes to improve the communal garden areas through community gardening
The Royal Horticultural Society's ‘It's Your Neighbourhood’ campaign is part of the wider Britain in Bloom initiative, providing an opportunity for smaller community groups to get involved, such as those based at independent living schemes.
“This just goes to show what can be achieved with the right teams, working hard across our estate with our customers,” Dan added. “Everyone is really proud of their achievements and we hope that our customers are too.”
