Orbit is a fantastic business and one that’s really going places.
Orbit was formed in 1967 with the aim of providing good-quality housing for people who would otherwise not be able to afford to buy their own home.
Over 50 years later, we’re one of the leading housing providers in the UK. Our services have diversified, our housing portfolio has expanded, and our reputation as an innovator within our sector has grown. But one thing that has never changed. Our belief in people and what they can achieve.
Your role at Orbit.
We believe in people, and what they can achieve. Every year, we invest around £5 million back into our communities, with the aim of inspiring and empowering them to succeed on their own terms.
As an innovative and ambitious team, we look to lead the way in the UK when it comes to integrating social investment into the housing sector.
Inclusion is at the heart of much of our work, with initiatives to boost financial and digital literacy, build employment skills and support entrepreneurship. That way, people can take control of their own lives, and build their own success stories.
Our Employment and Skills Programme Manager role is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape our My Work employment programme, which will be focused on:
Sitting within the Thriving Communities Team you will make an impact across the entire business. The role sits at the heart of our ambition to lead in building thriving communities and will play a key role in wider business aims such as reducing rent arrears and enabling our customers to sustain their tenancies.
You will develop and deliver a growth plan for employment and skills, implementing evaluation tools to enable Orbit to measure the effectiveness of direct delivery, as well as business and social returns.
In this role you will build external partnerships with various stakeholders including the DWP, Local Authorities and other statutory, private and voluntary sector partners. You will be responsible for identifying, securing and managing opportunities to enhance our employment and skills services to Orbit customers as well as the wider community. You will oversee the management of various workstreams to grow the programme through inward investment.
You will be responsible for the development of Orbit’s Better Days ‘My Work’ employment service, leading strategically the operational direction of the team and managing day-to-day delivery, including overseeing the establishment of targets and performance indicators.
What will help you make a difference.
We are looking for a true expert with demonstrable experience in developing and delivering employability, and training programmes preferably within a community context. You should have experience in leading a team and working across organisations to develop coherent and ambitious delivery plans.
The landscape is competitive by nature so you will have proven experience of achieving targets, delivering contracts e.g. Work programme, ESF, SFA etc and be able to develop and secure external funding with external partners.
With many of our programmes being delivered in a partnership approach we hope that you will possess excellent project and contract management skills with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
We know that an inclusive environment makes us more accessible and ensures we attract, engage, promote and retain great people. We welcome applications from all individuals regardless of background, age, gender/gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity/nationality, religious belief, faith or disability. As part of our Armed Forces Covenant commitment, we welcome ex-services professionals to consider career opportunities at Orbit.
